Waste not, want not – get stuff for FREE and help
reduce landfill waste
Got junk? By junk, we mean office equipment, furniture, supplies or other paraphernalia that you don’t need anymore, but don’t know how to get rid of it without contributing to landfill waste.
As is often said, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Or maybe it’s someone else’s “trash” that you consider treasure. Either way, you could swap and get some useful stuff for free while doing your part for environmental sustainability by joining the online Freecycle Network™.
The Freecycle Network is a grassroots, entirely nonprofit movement with the purpose of giving and receiving stuff for free in local towns and thus keep good items out of landfills. Started in Tucson, Arizona in 2003, Freecycle.org has since spread to more than 85 countries and now consists of more than 5000 groups and nearly 9 million members around the world.
The effort claims that it is keeping over 500 tons of reusable items out of landfills per day, which amounts to five times the height of Mount Everest in the past year alone.
Membership for you or your business is free and all you have to do is post the items you want to get rid of – or seek – on the Freecycle Network website — provided, of course, that you first sign up for the program and the items posted are free, legal and appropriate for all ages.
To learn more about the Freecycle Network, or to join and view the items being offered or sought in West Palm Beach, just go to http://groups.freecycle.org/WPBFreecycle/description.
